Envision The New Box Elder County

Government types are always making grandiose plans for the future. I guess that is why they succeed sometimes. They plan and make goals and work to achieve them.

Meanwhile, the rest of us are just able to get by day to day. That needs to change, so here is my proposal for the New Box Elder County.

The current  Box Elder County runs from east of Mantua all the way to Nevada! It is a huge county that is filled with a lot of worthless, salt encrusted, sage brush and rocks.  It is too big. While all of the population is concentrated from Tremonton to Willard.

My purpose in proposing this is to decentralize the county and make government move closer to those it is supposed to represent. 

When (not if) the checks from Washington no longer come with regularity, or at all, (Remember the $19 trillion federal debt?) that will be a good chance to recoup our liberties that have been vacuumed up by DC.

In that spirit, I propose the following realignment of the county lines:

This way, people in Park Valley will not be paying taxes for the court house in Brigham City, the sheriff, county fairgrounds, etc. And folks in Brigham won't have to see their taxes support deputies patrolling the lonely wasteland between Snowville and Lucin and getting into mischief.

Folks in Park Valley can build a 10,000 square foot marble courthouse if they wish, or they can convene in a tough shed. More and smaller counties mean more representative government, less likely to run amok because they are being observed 24/7 by the neighbors.

Oh, and did I mention my plans for Box Elder School District? Dissolution. The concomitant loss of faith in the promises of Washington when the checks no longer come, will open parents' eyes to the biggest cheerleaders of Washington's follies - public schools.

What will take it's place? - ten thousand private and home schools, individually meeting the education needs of children, as directed by their parents, as it should be.

That's my vision.

Alternatives to Alternative Aircraft Engines

My buddy and I are building a RV-7A that I hope one day will look like this:

The typical engine for this amateur built aircraft is the Lycoming O-320, a certificated aircraft engine that dates back many decades.

It is a good, reliable, proven aircraft engine that powers many fine RVs.  Did I mention that it costs $30,000 new?

I have spent a good portion of my life trying to find an alternative to this engine in order to lessen the sticker shock.

This is what I have found after looking hard for many, many years:

Get a buddy to split the cost with you and all of the sudden the price is $15,000 - half! Find another buddy and whamo, the cost is $10,000. Three buddies and the cost is $7,500.

Are you starting to get the point?  The cost goes down dramatically but the reliability, durability, and suitability don't change at all.

This should have been obvious to me many, many years ago, but I guess I was blinded by my fascination with engines of all types and thought automotive engines could be a cheap source of airplane power. Turns out they aren't once to do all that is physically necessary to make an automotive engine work in an aircraft.

Learn from my experience and don't spend time trying to re-engineer an O-320. Find a flying buddy instead!

More on the Peacenik Obama

I just wrote recently about the peacenik Obama and his Nobel prize, then I came across this:

Why are these two words used together? 

Cronyism is the appointment of friends and associates to positions of authority, without proper regard to their qualifications. This is the very essence of government currently practiced in the US.

Capitalism is an economic system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners (of capital) for profit. The synonyms of capitalism are free enterprise, private enterprise and the free market. This is supposed to be the economic system of record in the US.

If owners of capital are trying to obtain favors from government by the appointment of friends and associates to positions of authority, this is just simply cronyism, also known as corruption. There is no need to tack on the word capital to this.

I have been troubled by the Obergefell v. Hodges decision by the US Supreme Court that was made back in June of 2015.  I have been contemplating what to write and this is what I believe should be said. But first, let me start with a photo:

I wanted to say a lot about this remarkably brazen decision by SCOTUS, but then I realized that the 12 Apostles of Jesus Christ spoke about this issue 20 years ago.  Here is what they said:

The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets.

We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society.

To me it sounds like the calamities should be on their way. Coincidentally, the fiscal bankruptcy of the feddle gummint goes hand in hand with the moral bankruptcy of American society.

Marriage was instituted by God and predates the scrap of paper called the US Constitution by thousands of years.

Perhaps it will one day become clear to Americans that God, being the ruler of the Universe, makes the Laws and the rubbish scribbled by the robed clowns of SCOTUS is a printed rejection of their belief in Him. These opposing world views are not miscible.

PS. (Rhetorical Question) Am I the only soul on this planet that now comprehends that the only freedom the feddle gummint actually promotes is complete sexual license, while curtailing those freedoms that really matter, like life and property?

 

An Open Letter to Potential Visiting Extraterrestrials

Dear Extraterrestrial Visitors,

As a sign of our friendliness here on earth, I wish to share a few things with you that you might find perplexing and confusing.  I'm sure that once I explain them, you will feel a lot more at ease knowing that some things just can't be explained and even we humans have to shrug our shoulders.

This is how I was going to start a post about Obama, the Nobel Peace Prize Winner, but I ran low on satire. It wasn't funny. It was grotesque.

Though I found little solace with satire, I found more in the fact that the unindicted war criminal, Henry Kissinger was also awarded the Nobel Peace Prize way back in the 70's.

How could these apparatchiks of the Messianic state be awarded a prize that seems to mean the opposite of peace? 

Obama the commander and chief of drone attacks and the invader of countries and the over-thrower of regimes, a peaceful person?

The only rational conclusion is that the Nobel Peace prize is a messianic prize awarded to a statist messiah by other like minded statists.
 
 For the rest of us, we have to endure the grotesqueness of the whole thing.

The Messianic State

If anyone doubts the Messianic nature the the modern state (the US for example), one only has to see the media veneration of one of the supremes at their passing, Antonin Scalia in this case.

I simply can't believe that the US flag has been at half mast around the country for a week. But, or course, what is the US flag except the battle standard of the savior state.

Why these 9 fools have say over the alleged democracy of 320 million people is nothing short of grotesque. RIP, Antonin Scalia. I can only hope your colleagues join you soon.
